Opinion piece by EAJS member Fenya Fischler on the instrumentalization of antisemitism and the fight against the far right in Flanders.

The trial against Schild & Vrienden, in which they are accused of negationism, racial hatred, and discrimination, was concluded at the Ghent Court of Appeal last Tuesday, 1 April. This case illustrates how deeply racism, anti-Semitism and Islamophobia were embedded in the daily interactions of this Flemish nationalist and far-right student group. This should not surprise us: similar groups have been flirting with anti-Semitism openly and behind closed doors for a long time.
