The time for words and declarations is behind . . .

Een Andere Joodse Stem members, together with Anti-Zionist Jewish Alliance in Belgium and the coalition European Jews for Palestine, joined other solidarity groups and NGOs on Monday, June 23, in demanding the suspension of the EU-Israel association agreement, until Israel complies with international law. The protest was held in front of the gathering of all EU foreign ministers in Brussels. We support the words of the Spanish foreign minister Albares:

“The time for words and declarations is behind. We had enough time. And at the same time, Palestinians in Gaza have no more time to lose. Every day, babies, women, men are being killed. This is the time for action.”

Not showing up is not an option

On June 15, along with more than 100,000 people, EAJS was on the streets of Brussels to say no to genocide, no to apartheid and occupation. We called for sanctions and an end to the EU Association Agreement with Israel.

Every people has the basic right to live in freedom

” Shachar is closely involved with the organization Another Jewish Voice, whose members will join in the national demonstration against the genocide and for Palestine in the streets of Brussels on Sunday.

Itamar Shachar believes that the only solution to stop this genocide is an intervention by the international community. He therefore considers the resolution approved by the federal government a step in the right direction. Although he also has his reservations.

” ‘I do not agree with the so-called ’’conditions” imposed on the Palestinians. The right of every people to live in freedom is a basic right that should not be subject to conditions.” “

Belgium, where protest is criminalized and war criminals are protected

Catherine Bailey Glickman is a project manager for an NGO. She is active in the Belgian Jewish community, including as a member of Een Andere Joodse Stem. She published an opinion piece in De Morgen on 7 May 2025.

“If we criminalize protests against the abuses in Israel because they touch a sensitive political nerve, what will be left of our democratic culture?”

The instrumentalization of antisemitism

Opinion piece by EAJS member Fenya Fischler on the instrumentalization of antisemitism and the fight against the far right in Flanders.

The trial against Schild & Vrienden, in which they are accused of negationism, racial hatred, and discrimination, was concluded at the Ghent Court of Appeal last Tuesday, 1 April. This case illustrates how deeply racism, anti-Semitism and Islamophobia were embedded in the daily interactions of this Flemish nationalist and far-right student group. This should not surprise us: similar groups have been flirting with anti-Semitism openly and behind closed doors for a long time.
